At My Nametags, we get a\nunique insight into the names that are proving popular amongst British parents.\nWith such a diverse range of names making the top 200 baby names list over the\nlast 10 years, we were interested to find out more about the history behind Britain\u2019s\nfavourite names.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using data from the Office for\nNational Statistics (ONS<\/a>), we\nanalysed the decade\u2019s most popular baby names and discovered that British\nparents are drawing inspiration from all corners of the globe when it comes to\nnaming their children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, we found that almost\nhalf (45 percent) of the top 200 baby names in the UK have international\norigins, with inspiration drawn from everywhere from Greece to Japan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interestingly, many of the\nnames on our list have multinational origins themselves. For example, the name\nSophie originated in France, but derives from the older Greek name, Sophia.\nThis demonstrates just how international the influences on the UK\u2019s most\npopular names are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
